Appendix A - In Case Of Trouble
As with anything in life problems can occur during the operation
of XPCOM. One of the most common problems is an inadequate amount
of FILE and BUFFERS space.
FILES and BUFFERS
For proper operation of XPCOM FILES and BUFFERS should be set
to the following values in your CONFIG.SYS file.
FILES = 40
BUFFERS = 30
HARDWARE CONSIDERATIONS
Remember XPCOM was designed for use with hardware handshaking.
What this means is that virtually all of the RS-232 lines are
used during operation. Be sure that your cable supports the
CTS, DTR, and CARRIER DETECT Lines, as well as the normal
RD,TD, and appropriate grounds.
Some of the cheaper 9 pin cables DO NOT SUPPORT all necessary
signal lines. If you are in doubt ask the dealer where you
purchase your computer supplies.
IF YOU STILL HAVE TROUBLES
If you still have troubles don't hesitate to call or write. We
want you to be happy with the product and recommend it to
others. Phone calls can be taken from 6:00 PM to 10 PM (MST)
on weekdays and all day on the weekends.

Appendix C - Log Conversion Utility
The log conversion is utility is designed to convert other log
formats to the XPLOG.DAT format. This utility will convert log
files from the following popular programs. This program will
create a new file if one does not exist. If a copy of XPLOG.DAT
exists in the directory, the new data will be appended to the
file.
ACUTERM
Lan-Link
PC-Pacratt II
Hyper-Log
To use the utility use the following instructions.
1. Make a copy of the other log file in the XPCOM
directory.
Example Acuterm
copy chronlog.dta c:\xpcom
2. Run "logconv.exe" from the C:\ prompt.
At this point the program will convert the file
into the XPLOG format. This will create two files.
The first is the main log file, "XPLOG.DAT". and
the second is the index file "XPLOG.NDX.
Note : If you are converting either Acuterm or
PC - Pacratt files, be sure to check the
integrity of the data file with a quality ASCII
text editor. If these files have become corrupt
it is possible for the program to hang up. If
your system should hit a total log count that is
far beyond what was expected. Press CTRL-C to
halt program and check the log file.
Note : Logconv.exe version 1.5 and greater
provide better error checking for Acuterm log
files. If a bad record is encountered its line
number in the file will be displayed.
XPCOM Version 1.4 Page : 18-11
Appendix D - APLink Conversion Utility
The APLink conversion utility is designed to convert the
standard APLink directories into a format that is compatible
with XPCOM. This conversion is automatic, and preprocessing
(editing) of the APLink file is unnecessary unless the user only
wants specific stations or regions included in the directory.
The utility also checks the file after conversion for
duplicates. The assumption is made that the newest entry in the
file is the correct entry, any duplicates are eliminated. The
file that is created is "APLINK.DAT". If the user requires
several files can be produced, however, it is the users
responsibility to rename the files to something other than
"APLINK.DAT" before using XPCOM.
A suggestion would be to call the auxiliary file APL01.DAT or
AP_WEST.DAT to help the user keep track of the different files.
Be sure to rename the file to APLINK.DAT before starting XPCOM.
To convert a file to APLINK.DAT format...
1. Run XPAPLCNV from the C:\ prompt.
2. Enter the name of the file to be converted.
3. Respond to the Append / New file prompt.
At this point the file will be converted and a appended/new
file will be created for the APLink directory.
This conversion program depends heavily on the format of the
standard APLink lists that are provided on many Packet Bulletin
board system, as well as most APLink boards.

For users that have VGA monitors try the palette selection as
this can give quite a varied selection to the screen colors.
All 16 of the VGA pallette registers may be modified. If you
come up with a GREAT combination send me a copy of your
XPCUSTOM.PAL file. Would love to see it!!!.
